Making Kane County Fit for Kids is making funding available to support projects in Kane County that increase physical activity and healthy eating in various sectors of the community as described in the Fit Kids 2020 plan.
Funding is being made available through the Kane County Health Department and Making Kane County Fit for Kids to support local organizations to implement projects that will improve health in 1. Community Organizations 2. Early Child Care Centers 3. Municipalities 4. Schools and 5. Worksites. Each of these areas represents important components of the overall system that impacts the health of Kane County children.
As part of these projects, Fit for Kids will also solicit feedback about a new healthy community recognition program. The draft criteria for this program were developed by Northern Illinois University for Fit for Kids and are based on national best practices, interviews with local stakeholders and input sessions with community members engaged in the work of Fit for Kids. In addition to implementing their specific projects, each funded organization will participate in a review process with Fit for Kids to assess themselves against the draft criteria and provide feedback to improve the program for future participants.
